THE GHOST OF THELONIOUS MONK

It was another productive and enjoyable session at the writers group today, the theme decided for next week is to write a ‘Haiku’ poem, either traditional or modern. Here’s my poem from the theme ‘Harmony’.

THE GHOST OF THELONIOUS MONK

I’ve seen you lately

standing in doorways of bars

like endangered art

and I remembered

the way you danced on the keys

your eyes tightly shut

and your mind at peace

the poet Philip Larkin

said you were clumsy

like an elephant

big and grey and out of time

guess he missed the point

your jazz was your rhyme

the harmonies of the damned

from gigantic hands.

..
